NB Dental Society has the answers...
...about Cosmetic Procedures
Fredericton, NB – April 22, 2008
“Everyone wants a straight, whiter and brighter smile,” said Dr. Warren Tompkins, President of the New Brunswick Dental Society. The provincial Society says it wants people to understand the many treatment options that are available to them.
“There are many new and improved techniques available now,” said Tompkins. But he cautioned about taking a do-it-yourself approach. “If you think your teeth could be whiter, speak to your dentist who is the expert that can recommend the best option for you.”
He said that some over-the-counter products may irritate your gums and the other soft tissues in your mouth, or could even cause tooth sensitivity, without necessarily providing the desired whitening result. Dentists can perform a bleaching procedure in their office, or provide a kit to take home and use, that is appropriate for each individual’s needs.
For chipped, badly discoloured or poorly spaced teeth, your dentist may be able to apply a porcelain laminate (veneer) to your teeth giving you a completely new look. Veneers are strong, thin pieces of porcelain that are bonded to individual teeth to repair chips, close gaps or improve appearance.
